The original Angel was a medieval gold coin adopted in England by Edward IV in 1465. On its reverse was relief of a dragon being slain by Anchangel Michael, fro which the coin derived its name. In 1562 Henry VIII began to ue the gold angel coins as gifts on special state occasions. Angels were then treasured as they are today as touch pieces which their owners would rub to bring them good fortune.
This Angel gold coin is first issued by the Isle of Man in 1984.The reverse of this proof coin features St Michael the Archangel.
