As the official commemorator of significant events, The Royal Mint is delighted to present this exquisite coin, which pays tribute to The Queen’s Royal duties and features Royal Ascot, the race meeting attended by The Queen every year in June. The Silver coin shows a silhouette of The Cheltenham Gold Cup, the only trophy she personally presents.
The Queen is an able rider, as well as an owner and breeder of prize-winning thoroughbreds. Her genuine love of horses is reflected in the design by Thomas Docherty. As well as the Gold Cup, it shows a fine racehorse and The Queen’s own words from 2006 to mark the re-opening of Ascot racecourse, “May I wish all of you a most enjoyable day’s racing”.
On the obverse is the elegant relief of The Queen’s portrait created by Raphael Maklouf FRSA in 1984. The coin is part of a collection to mark the Jubilee year, each one issued by a different Commonwealth country.
It comes in a luxury presentation box in Royal Blue with a Certificate of Aauthenticity issued by The Royal Mint, to guarantee its provenance and the precious metal content.
Meticulously detailed, this commemorative Silver Proof coin is unusual in that it is struck in .999 fine silver, a higher quality than sterling silver, making it highly desirable to collectors. A must for lovers of the sport and British heritage, it is a lasting memento of 2012, the most significant historical year of our times.
