This particular coin is a variation of the classical Maple Leaf design. It incorporates the philosophy of yin/yang, which in Chinese tradition is meant to symbolize opposing and yet complimentary forces within the universe. These privy maple coins have proven to be quite popular among coin collectors.
At first glance this coin appears to be standard silver Canadian Maple Leaf, but upon closer inspection one will see the yin/yang symbol on the bottom left side. The Royal Canadian Mint has limited mintages of this coin to no more than 50,000, meaning it isn’t easy to find today and will become harder and more costly to procure in the future. It utilizes a finish which is reverse proof and the coin’s obverse side depicts an image of Queen Elizabeth II and information regarding the coin’s face value and year of issue. It is comprised of a single ounce of silver with an extraordinarily high purity of 99.99 percent.
