First beautiful Silver coin in the new series “Bioluminescent Animals” celebrates the luminous jellyfish Pelagia Noctiluca. The state-of the art minting technologies faithfully showcase the jellyfish bioluminescence, thanks to high-end digital printing. The large colour Pelagia is well done and will glow in a darkened room. Limited mintage to 999 pieces in the world.
The traditional obverse of a Niue coin contains a relief effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen's name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
Impressive bioluminescence is demonstrated on the reverse of the coin - the large colored Pelagia Noctiluca is well done and will glow in the night! A species of jellyfish found in Bermuda and throughout warm and temperate waters, Pelagia noctiluca may grow to 10 cm in diameter. Light is given off in the form of flashes when the jellyfish is stirred up by turbulence created by waves or a ship’s motion. This flashing is only of relatively short duration and gradually fades.
