The Gold Maple Leaf was first introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1979, and since that time the coin has sold more than 25 million ounces. It is Canada’s official bullion coin and is one of the world’s most recognizable. This 2017 issue is the newest edition.
The RCM is well known for their craftsmanship, countermeasures against counterfeiting and artistic design. This legacy continues with this coin, which contains a single ounce of gold with a purity of 99.99 percent. It also has radial lines which begin at the coin’s center, which are machined with great precision (micron level) to make sure the die production is always consistent. The end result is a pattern which diffracts light and makes the Maple Leaf distinct from other bullion coins. One feature which is specific to the 2017 edition is the fact that the number “17” can be seen through magnification to determine the coin’s year of issue, as well as its utilization of laser technology and micro-engraving.
