Why add this GEM 2017 Cook Islands 5 oz. Spider-Man: Homecoming Silver Proof in original Mint packaging to your collection?
There are Spider-Man fans around the world, even in the Cook Islands. This 5 oz. silver proof was issued by the Cook Islands, but it was actually struck by Mayer Mint in Germany. Its release follows the debut of the 2017 film Spider-Man homecoming. The mintage limit for this 5 oz. proof was set at 1,000 pieces. You may also be surprised to learn who the artist is behind this Spider-Man design. This thick silver proof is a must-have for any collector or Marvel fan.
Lifelike Spider-Man design
The Spider-Man: Homecoming design is on the obverse. While Stan Lee is credited with creating the original Spider-Man comics, this highly detailed design is the work of John Mercanti. Mercanti had a long career with the U.S. Mint and retired with the title of Chief Engraver. Spider-Man is shown swinging through the air on his web here. John Mercanti's initials can be found in the lower portion near the silver content and Marvel copyright inscriptions.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the reverse. The coin's face value and date are also shown here.
GEM Proof in original Spider-Man packaging
This coin is fresh from Mayer Mint, it's still in GEM Proof condition in its original packaging. The packaging has a Spider-Man theme, the outer box looks like the torso of his costume. The original packaging also includes a certificate of authenticity.
