The Australian Emu is a large flightless bird that can trot great distances. Their primitive feathers, which resemble coarse hair, help them survive the extreme changes in temperature that can be experienced in the Australian outback. The emu is the second-largest living bird by height, after the Ostrich. Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Emu 2018 1oz Gold Bullion Coin.
The coin’s reverse depicts an Australian Emu on a landscape featuring foliage, grass and trees. The design also includes the inscription AUSTRALIAN EMU, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the 2018-year date and the weight and purity. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
