This 1 oz. Silver 2018 5,000 Francs Republic of Chad African Lion is the latest issue in a series that started in 2015 and has since emerged as an annual favorite among LPM customers. The series has been issued by different African nations, but this is the second consecutive year that the coin has been issued by Chad. The coin was struck from .999 fine silver at Sunshine Minting and is one of just 50,000 pieces of its kind.
To honor the fact that this coin has been issued by different nations, the obverse design features a map of the entire African continent. Most of it is frosted, but Chad is mirrored. The entire map is encircled by rim inscriptions that provide detailed information about the coin, including the official name of the issuing nation, "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD."
The animal for which the coin is named is on the reverse. The lion is shown at a slight angle. The closeup view enables the holder to see details of his face and mane. While the design makes use of most of the surface area, space is left on the left for the inscription "AFRICAN LION.
