The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – Hall of Memory 2018 5oz Silver Coloured and Antiqued Coin features a representation of images from the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial.
The Australian War Memorial is Australia's national memorial to the members of its armed forces who lost their lives during conflict involving the Commonwealth of Australia. The memorial consists of a shrine, a military museum and an extensive archive. It offers the people of Australia and international visitors a place for quiet contemplation and reflection on the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
The Hall of Memory lies at the heart of the Australian War Memorial. Shaped like an octagon, the interior of the hall features 15 stained glass windows on three sides, with each window divided into five panels. Each of the 15 window panels features a figure in the uniform with equipment of the First World War and typifies one of the
quintessential qualities displayed by Australians in war.
The stained glass windows and other key elements of the Hall of Memory, including the tesserae mosaics and the Byzantine dome, were designed by the Australian artist Napier Waller (1893-1972). Napier Waller was a First World War veteran who lost his right arm in May 1917 at Bullecourt in France.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 5oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a maximum mintage of 300.
