The South African Mint has pleased to introduce a new coin series " South African inventions" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. The main theme of the series would be focusing on the only product go to the moon, Pratley Putty.
This putty was applied on the Ranger spacecraft produced and flown to study the moon, the Ranger spacecraft was the first spacecraft to land on the moon. The putty was invented by the South African George Montague ( Monty) Pratley in the 1960s. The Pratley putty played an important role which as an insulator and an adhesive agent for fixing brass terminals which were located inside cast iron cable junction boxes.
Features of the coin Set
- The coin set included 1 oz silver crown-sized coin, 1.414-gram silver Tickey coin and a stunning sterling-silver model of the Ranger spacecraft
- Limited mintage: With no more than 700 sets available worldwide
- The coins are packaged in a beautiful piano finish varnish, walnut wood box.
