2020 marks the commencement of a new lunar almanac cycle with the year of the rat. The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan proudly issues the Happiest Lunar Coin Series – 2020 Bhutan Lunar Rat coins. This new launch is the fifth coin issue of the Bhutan Lunar and Attraction series (2016-2027).
Not only known as one of the happiest country, the Kingdom of Bhutan is also popularly known as the last Shangri-La of the world.
Using elements of floral, leaves and clouds to portray the agile and adorable rat, the design artistically reflects the nature and mystical qualities of Bhutan, a country surrounded by the beauty of her floral and fauna.
The reverse coin design features a specially selected Bhutan attraction - Ancient Ruin of Drukgyel Dzong (The Fortress of the Victorious Bhutanese), an important monument to commemorate the victorious sovereignty of Bhutan.
