The Macau Lunar Pig Coin, the last issue in the Macau 3rd Lunar Series is issued in conjunction with the arrival of the 2019 Year of the Pig.
Occupying the 12th position in the Chinese zodiac cycle, people born in the Year of the Pig are considerate, responsible and optimistic. They are generous and warm-hearted, enabling them to forge harmonious interpersonal relationships.
The obverse side of the coin features a lively and robust pig accompanied by elegant blooms of hydrangeas. Hydrangeas, an attractive flower commonly used for landscaping, signifies hope, bliss and harmony. Round and in full bloom, hydrangeas portray abundance and prosperity as they are made up of a burst of smaller delicate flowers.
The reverse side features the Na Tcha Temple, which is located within the Historic Centre of Macao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1888, it is a Chinese traditional temple that worships the deity Na Tcha. The temple is located near the Ruins of St. Paul’s, remains of a Jesuit enterprise of the region, presenting a mix of Western and Chinese ideals. It portrays the unique multicultural identity of Macao and its religious freedom.
