Each year, The Royal Mint pays its respects to veterans of the British armed forces through the release of our Remembrance Day coin. Celebrating the unbridled bravery of our soldiers, this stoic series pays tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. In addition to the annual commemorations, 11 November 2020 also marks the 100th anniversary of the ceremonial burial of the Unknown Warrior – the unidentifiable British soldier repatriated in 1920 for ceremonial burial in honour of all those lost in the First World War.

To mark this historic anniversary, the 2020 edition of the Remembrance Day coin is dedicated to the Unknown Warrior, unearthing the fascinating story behind this emotional tribute. Featuring a powerful design by Natasha Preece, a product designer at The Royal Mint, the coin portrays the silhouette of a sombre soldier with head hung low in reflection, while a sea of poppies provides the background.

The Remembrance Day coin has become an annual fixture of The Royal Mint’s calendar. We are proud to continue this tradition into the new decade as we celebrate Remembrance Day 2020 and the centenary of the Unknown Warrior.
