South Africa Mint

South African Mint is responsible for minting all coins of the South African rand on behalf of the South African Reserve Bank. Located in Centurion, Gauteng province near Pretoria, the mint produces both commemorative and circulation coins for both domestic and international markets. As a large amount of gold was discovered in South Africa, the mint was established in 1892 as the president decided to mint the gold into coins rather than just exporting it as a bullion coin. This policy executed well when it introduced the world's first modern legal-tender gold bullion coin, the Krugerrand, in 1967. Throughout the years, the South African Mint introduced advanced manufacturing facilities and machinery. Now, South African Mint grows to be one of the world’s leading mints as it earns reputation thanks to global accreditation, international referee status and ISO certification.
