This example of the 2021 1 oz. Gold American Eagle $50 coin was graded Mint State 70 (MS70) by industry leaders at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). This 1 ounce American Gold Eagle is one of the first bullion issues to feature the type-2 Eagle Portrait reverse which in mid-2021 started replacing the classic Family of Eagles design that had appeared on the series since its debut in 1986. 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the American Gold Eagle series.

  • The coin qualified for the First Releases (FR) designation, information relayed on our exclusive Eagle Red Banner Label.
  • The U.S. Mint introduced the Gold Eagle series in 1986
  • The Gold Eagle series is one of the bulwarks of bullion stacks and numismatic holdings all over the world.
  • This is a legal tender coin with a $50 face value.
  • Each coin contains 1 oz. of gold.
  • The 1 ounce Type 2 release features a reeded gap security feature.

Obverse: In 1907 famed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens did complete the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin on which this obverse is based. The obverse features Lady Liberty striding forward holding symbols of freedom and enlightenment and Peace. In 2021 for the Type-2 Gold Eagle, the United States Mint returned to their historical assets resulting in a design that is closer to Saint-Gaudens' original design and vision. The torch, sun rays and capitol building have been revised to include original design details.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin is an original design which was executed by Jennie Norris of the U.S. Mint's Artistic Infusion Program (AIP). This image is that of a bald eagle bringing an intense gaze to the viewer. This is the first appearance of the new "Type 2" reverse.
