Wedge Tailed Eagle
The Wedge Tailed Eagle is the largest predatory bird in Australia, and is known for its endurance and ability to remain in the air for hours at altitudes as high as 2000 meters. It comes as no surprise that the Perth Mint has decided to commemorate this majestic bird by striking it in beautiful 1 oz silver coins. No more than 10,000 of these coins will be issued, making them a must-have item for collectors.
History of the Australian Wedge Tailed Eagle Coins
The Perth Mint recruited John M. Mercanti, a renowned American engraver and sculptor, to create the stunning artwork featured on these silver coins. Mercanti is a Chief Engraver at the US Mint, and designed the coins in a manner where the reverse showcases the eagle flying through the air, preparing to land on top of a branch. The obverse of the coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II. The inscription “Australian Wedge Tailed Eagle” can also be seen, along with the year the coin was issued and the “P” symbol of the Perth Mint. These coins are considered legal tender within Australia.
