The Royal Mint is excited to introduce a new coin to The Queen’s Beasts Collection.

The coin design is inspired by ancient symbols of power and identity, the range brings to life the ten imposing statues that lined the entrance to Westminster Abbey in 1953 at the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen.

About The White Lion of Mortimer: 

The White Lion of Mortimer is another beast inherited by the Queen from Edward IV of the House of York, as is the Black Bull. It was a symbol of King George VI - Queen Elizabeth II's father - prior to his coronation.

The Mortimer lion has no crown and has a blue tongue and holds a Yorkist shield bearing a ‘white rose en Soleil’ (golden sun) on a half and half background.

• The coin is finished in the Proof standard
• Each coin is struck from 1 kilo 99.9 % pure silver
• Low mintage: The maximum mintage would be 120 pieces for 1 kilo silver proof coin
• This interpretation of the White Lion of Mortimer is the 7th design in The Queen’s Beasts Collection
